My Story
Hi, there! I am John Chambers, and I’ve always loved people, learning, and – well, love.
Growing up, I was clearly different. I was regularly bullied, sat through sermons by my own dad about how homosexuality was the worst form of sin, and struggled with hiding the shame I felt about being gay in a world that seemed to hate me. For years, I accepted fear as my truth, trying to fit into the mold of what others expected, working hard to achieve, to succeed, and to avoid any chance for shame to rear its ugly head. This led me to a lot of success throughout my early life, including a bachelor’s from Cornell University and an impressive HR career for some of the world’s largest finance firms.
Fear can be a powerful motivator. It can also leave you burnt out, lonely, and painfully unhappy.
I was fortunate to find a series of good friends and great therapists, culminating in a powerful EMDR journey that helped me to reframe my entire life experience in a new way. This journey of self-acceptance and appreciation for each step of my path is also what led me to coaching. I’ve come to believe that the world needs more love, kindness, acceptance, and vulnerability. And that’s exactly what I strive to uphold in everything I do.
For the positive psychology nerds among us, my top five VIA Signature Strengths are an appreciation for beauty and excellence, curiosity, open-mindedness, kindness, and generosity – all qualities I now strive to weave into my life and coaching practice. I’m deeply curious about people’s stories and strengths, and I believe in the power of kindness and generosity to help others see the beauty in themselves.
Through my personal experiences and professional career in HR, I’ve learned that people can do incredible things when they feel valued, heard, and understood. That’s why I love coaching – it allows me to create that space for others and help them unlock their own potential. Coaching isn’t just a profession for me; it’s a calling. I want to help people reconnect with their authentic selves, embrace their vulnerability, and build lives they’re truly proud of. Whether you're facing personal challenges or professional transitions, I’m here to walk alongside you on that journey - because I know firsthand how transformative it can be when you learn how to believe in yourself and create your own path.
